As we start this new year, many of us think about the question, “Who am I?” Understanding ourselves starts with recognizing our core values—what’s really important to you! Knowing this guides our decisions and shapes our actions and interactions.
Do You Know Your Core Values?
Core values are the fundamental beliefs that dictate our behavior and help us differentiate right from wrong. Examples of core values include integrity, empathy, creativity, and resilience. These values influence how we live our lives and interact with beings.
How Can You Learn Your Core Values?
While it’s possible to list many values, determining which ones are most important to you can be challenging. One effective method is to reflect on moments when you felt particularly proud or fulfilled. What were you doing? Who were you with? The answers can highlight your true values.
Sometimes, it’s helpful to get perspective from loved ones. Ask friends or family members that you trust which values they see manifested in your actions. Often, how we live speaks volumes about what we value most, even if we aren’t fully aware of it.
By focusing on core values this January, you can gain deeper insights into “who you are” and how to align your actions with your true self. This self-awareness is an important first step in living an authentic and fulfilling life.
I know you have heard the term “You Are A Summation of Your Closest Friends.” This tells me that it is important to have who you allow in your closest circle.
